More Festivities

The friday after Christmas my parents and Mike's mom and us met up with our friends Athene and Shiva for some more holiday cheer!
We drove downtown to walk around and look at the holiday lights on 37th street. Despite being a smaller showing than past years, it was a delightful walk on a nice warm night.

The thing about the lights down there is the creativity in the displays, not just the showiness. Many of the displays make political and social statements.

I was amused by one of the first houses who had a Flying Spaghetti Monster on the front of it.

Also liked the sock monkey manger scene...

This one had lots of political and economic messages, companies falling down from trees, some with government parachutes, Obama trying to drag the stock market back up, and a big monopoly board on the sidewalk with properties relevant to current ecomomics.

These two are of a reindeer drinking beer and driving with his penguin buddy in his pick-up truck.

After the walk we headed home and Shiva cooked up the yummiest batch of hot cocoa I have ever had. It was made with milk and a real block of cocoa. It tasted wonderful. We also sat outside on the deck around the firepit and roasted some marshmallows.

Just a very pleasant evening with family and friends.
